Warmal Globing

The lighter side of global warming

Wait a minute...that just doesn’t make sense!  I thought there were supposed to be MORE hurricanes, not less.  Got the idea?  Please share.

Doesn’t Fit The Story

Too hot, too cold, too hot again…

Just for fun, do some googling for old stories about upcoming climate disasters.  With every story I am amazed at the similarities… seems that ‘the entire scientific community’ was in line with earlier predictions as well as with the current one.

One of the wonders of the internet is the ability to check information for yourself.  You can read my opinions, but you can also verify the facts from the original sources.  I have a few great links to articles that describe the swings of the media over the years:

A copy of the original Newsweek article from 1975, and

A 30 year old apology.

Below is a summary of the warnings from our friends at the New York Times:

I thought it was too HOT.  So why are we hitting record losses here?

A couple writers summarize the mistakes of our modern media here, and again here.

And this article takes a longer look back—all the way to the chilly 1600’s.

January 26, 2006— another cold winter day in NYC.  The day set a record for cold, although I don’t remember any articles about that...

Want to impress people?  Be the first to talk about the return of global cooling.

News outlets carry tremendous power not just by choosing the spin of a story, but also by deciding the stories they think people should hear about.  Bias by omission is much more widespread than bias by commission; it is also much easier to deny.  Nobody complains about a story about a tiny town, with new desert climate that fits the global warming model.  But if you complain about the omission of a story about record cold, you are told that such examples are outliers that do not deserve mention.  To the right are updated stories that either missed major media attention, or that don’t jibe with media spin.  Check back—they are out there all the time.  Ask yourself, why didn’t my paper cover that?

Old News.  I put it here to demonstrate how quickly the media forgets.  Of course they could just blame it on global warming...

Mars is heating up: Global Warming at WarmalGlobing.com.

Those right-wingers at National Geographic tell us that things are heating up on Mars—call it ‘Marsal Warming’.  Only problem is that there are no SUVs, no oil companies...there isn’t even have carbon dioxide!  Makes one wonder if it is possible that something else (gasp!) could affect the planet’s temperature!
