The lighter side of global warming |

Bozo Science |

Sometimes science is just plain silly. Or perhaps you are a logician, and want to point out an inconsistency, or take issue with an unsupported conclusion. While this page is intended for scholarly presentation, feel free to share anything that you hear, maybe on NPR, that just sounds ridiculous. |

Increased rate of suicide due to global warming. You must be kidding... |
|
Nobody does global-warming hysteria better than the press of California (except maybe the New York Times). This series is typical—scary scenarios that could happen. Someone needs to tell them “yes, and monkeys might fly out of my butt!” They will say that ‘natural’ reasons for a certain climate pattern have been ruled out, and so it must be ‘human-caused’. Who ruled the natural reasons out? ‘THEY’ did. Here is the discussion a bright 12-y-o should have with ‘them’:
How did you rule out ‘natural factors’?
By comparing the current weather to climate patterns that have occurred over time up to now.
Does that mean that there are patterns that we can predict or expect?
Er...no...weather is random.
So how do you apply patterns to something that is random?
Hmmm….. |

All Right!! Turns out the UN knows just what is going on. We can always count on them when things get tough! |

|
The UN scientists (?) say they have the ‘smoking gun’ for all this warming stuff.
They say that things are messed up now, but that things should get better in about 1000 years. |
|
This one does not surprise me. The last time I went hiking at Devils Lake State Park, I kept asking my wife if the mountains were bigger. They sure seemed that way. She said something crazy about old age causing the mountains to grow. But I’m vindicated—It’s Global Warming that makes them grow!! |
|
Those poor bears. A picture really does paint a thousand years...which is why a movie about science is so dangerous. This image changes peoples minds. But it shouldn’t. Ask yourself—what is going on behind the photographer? How long did it take for the photo team, passing dozens of bears, before finding this shot? Here is a statement in the accompanying article: They cling precariously to the top of what is left of the ice floe, their fragile grip the perfect symbol of the tragedy of global warming. |
|
In this different article about polar bears, the author recommends placing the animals on a list of ‘vulnerable species’. I was confused, as I have read that the population of polar bears is actually increasing. The confusion is because of two things. First, in the doom and gloom article, the author refers to the predicted decline in polar bears. The bears are fine for now. The other confusing point is that he is referring to just one small collection of bears—no the polar bears overall. |
|
Don’t worry about the polar bears. They are fine—and in much larger numbers than ever before (from 5000 to 25,000 since 1970). Enjoy the bear photos. But don’t get the pretty pictures mixed up with science. I could show you a cute picture of my pet puggle behind the wheel of my car, but guess what? He can’t drive!!! Do you really think Al Gore showed you films of all the glaciers? More likely he looked for the sorriest-looking pile of ice that he could find. And speaking of ice…
Glaciers melt...but they reform much quicker than (they) thought. Wow. They freeze! That is going to mess up the whole ‘consensus’ thing... |
|
One of the many problems with the arguments by warming scientists is that they assume that the variables are known entities. One thing about ecosystems—they adapt. What will happen in response to warming? |
|
People are comforted by the mistaken belief that we understand our world—or that at least someone does. But take a simple question...Are trees good or bad for the planet? We don’t know!! |

This guy has written some incredible novels—Andromeda Strain sparked my interest in science, and Travels validated my own experiences with peyote, back in the 1970’s when people did such things as part of personal journeys. This speech, Aliens cause global warming, is a smart treatise on the history of scientific research by a smart guy. This guy, known for the vast research behind each novel, a trained physician and fellowship-trained scientist, writes State of Fear… the response is that every brilliant thing he has said or done is pushed aside, and the NPR people now see him as ‘one of THOSE guys’. Must have gone senile. Or worse—greed got him. Meanwhile the stars of the Left are actually quoted in scientific debate—despite minimal educational qualification or experiences to talk as an expert about anything. Let’s always keep in mind the educational resumes of our favorite stars—conveniently listed to the right: |

Another article about Polar Bears ‘thriving’ in the arctic; calls pictures of lone bears ‘misleading’. |

We all heard the rumors about Bush somehow muzzling scientists about global warming. What do you think? Are the global warming alarmists being muzzled? (that was a joke) On the other hand, how much do you hear about this? |
